Press Release:
Micron Optics announces the expansion of the si425 Optical Sensor Interrogator

Atlanta, March 12th, 2004 - Micron Optics, Inc., a leading producer of optical systems for measuring strain, temperature, and pressure using fiber optic sensors, announces the release of the sm040, a new channel expansion module that will interrogate more than 2000 sensors simultaneously.

Used in conjunction with the si425 Optical Sensor Interrogator, the sm040 expands the number of optical channels from 4 optical channels to 8 or 16 optical channels. With 128 sensors per channel, this means that more than 2000 sensors can be interrogated at one time. Additionally, the wavelength range (measurement bandwidth) is expanding by 60% -- to 80nm from 50nm. This is double the range of most other instruments of its kind. The si425 is fully CE approved and is tested for operation in harsh environments under the demanding Telcordia GR-63 standards.

The Micron Optics si425 Optical Sensor Interrogator is now installed in applications on five continents -- and on (and under) three seas. The versatility of the si425 is helping optical sensing expand into markets that have been out of reach of conventional technologies. Measurement speed and resolution, sensor capacity, Ethernet connectivity, and field-proven performance have set the Micron Optics si425 apart from others. It joins a powerful line of sensing instruments and components that together are installed in more than 65% of all of the sensing applications in the world.
