Bragg Grating Sensor _________________
Sensing
Description
The Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) has been considered an excellent
sensor element, suitable for measuring static and dynamic
fields, such as temperature, strain and pressure. It can
be mounted on surfaces and/or embedded directly into structures
to provide an optical alternative to conventional sensors.
Using our proprietary technology, Technica specializes
in manufacturing high value-added fiber Bragg gratings for
fiber sensing applications. The fiber Bragg grating sensors,
when used in conjunction with an interrogation system, provide
detailed information such as strain, temperature or other
parameters. The sensor network can be specifically designed
to meet individual customers’ requirements such that
the sensors are positioned at critical load points within
structures. Suitable embedding or bonding techniques allow
the sensors to be integrated into the body structures, ensuring
accurate and reliable results.
Applications
Long term monitoring, risk and damage assessment of:
1. Civil Engineering, smart health monitoring (bridges,
tunnels, buildings)
2. Energy (wind turbines, pipelines, nuclear reactors)
3. Oil & Gas (platform structural health monitoring)
4. Transportation (railways, roadways)
Distinguishing Advantages
1. Self-referencing - wavelength encode measurand information
2. Multiplexing capability - number of FBGs can be multiplexed
in one single fiber
3. Remote Sensing - long distance between sensors and sensor
to instruments
4. Small size and light weight
5. Corrosion proof
6. Passive sensor - immune to EMI, eliminates ESD and spark
hazard
7. Reliable - orders of magnitude more resistant to fatigue
and much more resistant to peaking (instant high level of
shock) than conventional electronic strain gauges

Description
The Fiber Bragg Grating is an enabling technology that
has demonstrated its usefulness in the deployment of optical
networks. For example, pump lockers are critical to lock
and stabilize pump lasers, driving Erbium-doped optical
amplifiers. It turns out Amplifiers are still required in
the Metro/Access networks, there are many Insertion Losses
due to adding and dropping of channels, so pump locker requirements
will continue to grow.
Using Technica's proprietary technology and sophisticated
manufacturing setup, Technica has a unique capability to
develop FBGs with high yield, high quality and better performance
to cost ratio. Additionally, Technica’s industrial
grade manufacturing operation is designed for scalability
for repeatable quality FBGs for higher-volume demanding
customers.
Distinguishing Advantages
1. Excellent wavelength control
2. Mass production capability
3. High pull strength
4. Telcordia compliant
5. RoHS compliant
